Each talk is presented by a breastfeeding specialist who shares insights into breastfeeding culture
in their country. These interesting presentations continue to be a popular component of the GOLD conferences.

Raeleen De Joux
Raeleen de Joux is of Ngati Kuri/Te Rarawa descendent and is currently employed by the New Zealand Breastfeeding Authority (NZBA) as Baby Friendly Advisor Māori. She is a past Board member and a BFHI assessor. Her role within NZBA is to provide the cultural component and frameworks that support maternity facilities and community services to meet the needs of Māori women and their whanau (family) and improve breastfeeding outcomes.
She was previously employed as breastfeeding advisor for the South Canterbury District Health Board providing hospital and community based lactation support and breastfeeding education for facility staff as well as pregnant and breastfeeding mothers.
Raeleen has a background in community nursing, childbirth education and clinical teaching. Her passion for breastfeeding stems from her earlier employment as Mokopuna Ora Co-ordinator for the Maori SIDS Programme where the focus was on SIDS prevention within Māori communities and improving child health outcomes.

Cristina's experience, dedication and engagement made her a pioneer on
breastfeeding support in Portugal. Cristina was a co-founder of the
first mother-to-mother support group, as well as of the first
Portuguese breastfeeding support organization. She implemented “La
Leche League” in Portugal, becoming the first LLL leader in this
country. She was the recipient of a MILCC scholarship in 2008 and became one of the first International Board Certified
Lactation Consultants in Portugal, being the only one working as a
Lactation Consultant.

Dr. Anastasia Karathanasi
Dr Karathanasi graduated as a medical doctor in 2001 at University of Thessaloniki in Greece and since then she worked towards specialising as a paediatrician at the Children's Hospital of Athens, Ag.Sofia in 2009. Anastasia has always worked with a strong focus on breastfeeding and became certified as an IBCLC in 2007 – her special interest area is breastfed babies with ankyloglossia encouraged by her mentor Dr Brian Palmer. She is currently studying her PhD in obstructive sleep apnea in children and is also studying homoeopathy in children. Anastasia is the IBLCE co-ordinator for Greece and Cyprus and member of the Academy or Breastfeeding Medicine; and as mother of two breastfed children, she is also an active member of La Leche League and co-founder of the breastfeeding support organisation, Galaxias.

Dr Mattar is a professor of childhood studies and an IBCLC in Egypt. She graduated from Cairo University, Faculty of Medicine in 1982 and received her Master’s Degree in Pediatrics in 1988. She completed a Diploma in Public Health (majoring Nutrition) in 1990 from High Institute of Public Health, Alexandria University. In 1996 , she received her Ph.D in Childhood Studies at Ain Shams University. She has been working in National Nutrition Institute in Cairo since 1985 and became Head of Nutrition Requirements and Growth Department since 2005. She became certified as IBCLC in 2002. May has been the coordinator of the IBLCE since 2007.

Dr. Maria Sortino
Dr Sortino became a medical doctor in 1979 in Argentina and specialized as a Pediatrician in 1987. Since then, she has continued to work actively in Pediatrics, always with special attention to breastfeeding. She has been a promoter of the world breastfeeding week in Neuquén, Argentina for many years, where she also became qualified as IBCLC in 2003. Mary is currently a Paediatrician for Health Centre “Nueva Esperanza” in Neuquén as well as member to the breastfeeding local commission. She has completed a year of consulting on reducing child chronic malnutrition in both Nicaragua and Guatemala.

Dr. Amal El Taweel
Dr Amal graduated from Cairo Faculty of Medicine in 1986 and completed her Master's degree in pediatrics in 1992 then her MD in Pediatrics in 2002. She became certified as an IBCLC in 2003. She has been interested in infant feeding since the beginning of her career with deep belief in breastfeeding in spite of the very limited knowledge available then. Since her certification as IBCLC she became devoted to implementing optimal breastfeeding practices through her work in the 1st IBCLC run lactation consultancy clinic in Egypt as well as the capacity building activity by helping more Egyptian physicians to certify as IBCLCs every year through the continued education programs organized by the Egyptian Lactation Consultants' Association (ELCA). She is treasurer and educational coordinator of ELCA. She is also member of the International Lactation Consultant Association (ILCA), the Academy of Breastfeeding Medicine (ABM) and the International Baby Food Action Network (IBFAN).

Prof. Masumi Imura
Masumi Imura is a Professor of Maternal Nursing and Midwifery. She has been working with a special interest in breastfeeding support and extensive clinical experience since her certification as an IBCLC in 1999. She held a long time position as clinical lecturer and professor at Tokyo Medical and Dental University and later at the International University of Health and Welfare and recently took the position at the Japanese Red Cross College of Nursing. In 2006, she achieved her PhD and became IBLCE country co-ordinator for Japan. Dr Imura is also a certified instructor of baby massage giving support for child-bearing and provides olfactory and tactile care for mothers and babies as a certified aromatherapy instructor.
Masumi is Japanese Tea Ceremony and Flower arrangement certified teacher.
